The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, inaugurated the Geological Survey of India (GSI) Geoscience Museum in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on December 15, 2024. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the historic Victoria Market Building marked a blend of tradition and innovation.
Dignitaries present included Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel, Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The museum’s two galleries explore Earth’s wonders and the evolution of life.
Gallery I highlights geological marvels like volcanoes, meteorites, and rare rocks. Gallery II traces the evolution of life and ancient ecosystems. Featuring interactive displays, fossils, and gemstones, the museum fosters curiosity and scientific understanding.

The Vice President praised GSI’s contributions to geology and sustainable resource management. Shri Satish Chandra Dubey issued the museum’s first ticket, marking its public opening.
GSI DG Shri Asit Saha called the museum a vital resource for researchers, educators, and geoscience enthusiasts.
