TCS and IIT Kharagpur Launch Cutting-Edge Research Hub
Kolkata, November 28, 2024: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) to establish an advanced research center in Kolkata’s New Town area. The center, located in IIT KGP’s Research Park, aims to foster innovation in digital health, robotics, and intelligent systems, leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence, edge computing, and embedded systems.
Highlights:
- State-of-the-Art Labs: Three specialized labs will focus on Sensing and Communications, Edge Computing, and Robotics and Visual Computing.
- 150+ Scientists: Over 150 TCS researchers will work on groundbreaking projects to drive innovation.
- Customer Experience Center: Clients from various industries will experience live demonstrations of TCS’s research breakthroughs.
- Collaborative Workshops: The center will host workshops with TCS scientists, industry experts, and IIT KGP faculty to solve real-world challenges.
- Strategic Academic Partnership: This collaboration underscores TCS’s ongoing efforts to integrate academic expertise with industry needs.

TCS CTO Dr. Harrick Vin highlighted the importance of co-locating research labs within academic institutions to facilitate efficient knowledge exchange and innovation. Building on its success at IIT Madras Research Park, this center represents the next step in TCS’s strategic journey.
IIT KGP Director Prof. Virendra Kumar Tewari emphasized that this collaboration combines IIT Kharagpur’s research strengths with TCS’s industry leadership to address critical challenges in healthcare and automation.
