November 7, 2024: Tata Power, one of India’s largest power companies, has entered into a strategic partnership with Noida International Airport (NIA) to integrate renewable energy solutions. The companies have signed two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for wind and solar power supply to meet the airport’s growing energy needs sustainably.
Under the deal, Tata Power Trading Company Limited (TPTCL) will manage NIA’s renewable energy portfolio. TPTCL will supply 10.8 MW of wind power, while Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) will develop a 13 MW solar power facility on-site. Together, these projects will contribute significantly to the airport’s green energy requirements.
A ₹550 Crore Investment for Green Infrastructure
Tata Power will invest ₹550 crore (~$66 million) in the development of solar, wind, and essential electrical infrastructure at the airport. The partnership also includes a 25-year commitment to providing ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M) services for these systems, ensuring sustainable and reliable energy sources for NIA.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Tata Power’s efforts to build sustainable airport infrastructure across India, especially as the country plans to construct over 200 new airports in the coming decades.

Supporting India’s Net Zero Goals
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata Power, emphasized that this partnership is a key step toward creating net-zero airports in India. He stated, “This collaboration will accelerate the country’s path towards a greener future by providing innovative clean energy solutions to the aviation sector.”
Building for the Future
The first phase of NIA will have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually, with a long-term goal of accommodating 70 million passengers. Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, highlighted that this partnership is crucial to the airport’s sustainability vision. “By sourcing more than half of our energy from renewable sources, we are setting a strong example of environmentally conscious airport operations.”
The Tata Power-NIA partnership is a critical step toward creating a model for sustainable airport infrastructure in India, supporting both the environment and the growing demands of the aviation sector.
