Patna, Bihar – SJVN Limited and the Government of Bihar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the 1000 MW Hathidah Durgawati Pumped Storage Project (PSP). The agreement was finalized in a formal event attended by Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and other senior officials in Patna.
The project, located on the Durgawati River in Kaimur district, is set to deliver a peak energy generation capacity of 6.325 million units (MU) daily and 2308.65 MU annually. With a planned investment of ₹10,000 crore, the project will provide direct and indirect employment to 5,000 individuals in the region.
SJVN was appointed as the nodal agency for Pumped Storage Projects in Bihar in August 2022. Following a detailed feasibility study, Hathidah Durgawati PSP was identified as the most viable option among four proposed projects.

The project has an estimated cost of ₹5,663 crore and a levelized tariff of ₹9.39 per kWh based on current price levels. This ambitious plan aligns with SJVN‘s broader mission of developing over 12,000 MW of pumped storage capacity across India, including in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Mizoram, and Himachal Pradesh.
The initiative is a significant step toward strengthening Bihar’s renewable energy infrastructure, providing reliable energy, and generating employment.
