Indian Railways is undergoing a massive transformation, with railway stations under South Central Railway (SCR) jurisdiction being upgraded to provide world-class amenities for passengers. Under the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” (ABSS), ₹4605 crores are being spent to modernize these stations, turning them into regional growth centers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the redevelopment of 108 stations in South Central Railway’s jurisdiction, marking significant progress in August 2023 and February 2024. Major stations like Secunderabad, Tirupati, Nellore, and Rajahmundry are being upgraded, alongside the development of Cherlapalli Satellite Terminal, which will ease congestion in the twin cities region. Tiruchanur is also set to become a key crossing station to handle the growing pilgrim traffic to Tirupati.

The ABSS initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Railways, is focused on providing modern passenger amenities. This includes improved facades, better station access with widened roads, landscaped areas, and a preference for showcasing local art and culture. The scheme will also see the construction of high-level platforms, improved waiting halls, and the provision of advanced public announcement systems and LED station boards.
Additionally, stations like Renigunta and Gudur are set for future upgrades, while Techno Economic Feasibility Studies for Kacheguda, Lingampalli, and Vijayawada stations are nearing completion.
