Mumbai, December 17, 2024: Reliance NU Suntech, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, has been awarded a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the country’s largest solar energy and battery storage project. This massive 930 MW solar power project will be complemented by a 465 MW/1860 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
This landmark project will deploy the largest grid storage batteries at a single site in India, and Asia, excluding China. Reliance NU Suntech secured this monumental contract after winning an e-reverse auction held on December 9, 2024. The project will provide peak power for up to four hours daily, a critical advantage for Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) facing expensive power purchases during peak hours.

The solar power generated will be stored and delivered to the grid, helping mitigate the high costs of power during peak demand. The competitive tariff and secure power supply will offer significant relief to DISCOMs and contribute to India’s renewable energy transition. Reliance NU Suntech will manage the project under a build-own-operate basis for the next 25 years.
The power generated will be sold to various discoms across India under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a period of 25 years. This win marks a significant step forward for India’s solar and energy storage capabilities, making renewable energy more cost-effective and sustainable.
