Reliance Defence Limited, promoted by Reliance Infrastructure, has announced a major defence manufacturing project in Maharashtra. The company will set up a large facility under the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC). This project will focus on producing explosives, ammunition, and small arms.
Investment and Location
The project will involve an investment of up to Rs. 10,000 crore over the next 10 years. The facility will be spread over 1,000 acres in Watad Industrial Area, located in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. This makes it one of the largest private sector defence projects in India.
Partnership Opportunities
Reliance Defence is exploring partnerships with up to six leading global defence companies. The production range will include small, medium, and large caliber ammunition, as well as terminally guided munitions (TGM). The small arms produced will be aimed at both military and civilian export markets.

Existing Joint Ventures
Reliance Defence already has successful joint ventures with Dassault Aviation and Thales of France at MIHAN in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Their joint ventures, Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL) and Thales Reliance Defence Systems (TRDS), export 100% of their production.
This project will mark a significant contribution to India’s defence manufacturing sector. It highlights the role of private companies in boosting the country’s defence capabilities.
