In a transformative move for Bihar’s healthcare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Darbhanga, marking a historic development for the region.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the center’s broad outreach, benefiting residents of Mithila, Koshi, and Tirhut areas in Bihar and even parts of West Bengal and Nepal. He shared that AIIMS Darbhanga will be a game-changer, addressing healthcare needs long underserved.
Highlighting the government’s five-fold healthcare approach, he stressed preventive care, accurate diagnosis, affordable treatment, rural access, and tech-enabled services as essential for India’s growth. Modi pointed out that in the last ten years, India has added 1 lakh medical seats, with a target of 75,000 more in the next five years.

Bihar’s healthcare is also set to see a new cancer center in Muzaffarpur, eliminating the need for patients to travel to Delhi or Mumbai. He added that this new AIIMS would produce more doctors, reinforcing Bihar’s healthcare workforce.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar welcomed the project as a catalyst for Darbhanga’s social and economic growth, underscoring AIIMS Darbhanga’s potential to uplift the entire region.
