The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has inked a landmark ₹7,628.70 crore contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for the procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army. The agreement, under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category, was signed on December 20, 2024, in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
This procurement represents a significant step in artillery modernization and operational readiness for the Indian Army. The K9 VAJRA-T artillery guns are designed to deliver long-range, high-precision firepower, and their advanced mobility ensures effective operations in diverse terrains, including sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes.

The project not only strengthens India’s defense but also exemplifies the spirit of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make-in-India.’ With a projected employment generation of over nine lakh man-days across four years, it promotes active participation of Indian industries, including MSMEs.
This deal marks a significant milestone in bolstering the Army’s firepower and underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
