Greenfield Port Development in Murbe
On October 28, 2024, JSW Infrastructure Limited announced its successful bid to develop a new greenfield port at Murbe, Maharashtra. This port will be an all-weather, multi-cargo facility. It is strategically located near key highways, including National Highway 8 and Boisar Road, as well as major rail routes like the Delhi-Mumbai trunk rail route and the Dedicated Western Freight Corridor.
Expansion Plans for Jaigarh and Dharamtar Ports
JSW also revealed plans to expand the capacity of its existing ports at Jaigarh and Dharamtar. The board has approved a total capacity increase of 36 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This includes 21 MTPA at Dharamtar and 15 MTPA at Jaigarh.
The expansion involves a total investment of ₹2,359 crore. This investment will cover mechanical, civil, and electrical work for new berths and infrastructure enhancements, including a railway siding at Jaigarh Port to facilitate third-party cargo movement.

Increased Cargo Handling Capacity
With these expansions, Jaigarh Port’s capacity will rise from 55 MTPA to 70 MTPA, while Dharamtar Port will increase from 34 MTPA to 55 MTPA. This development aims to accommodate the growing cargo volumes from an anchor customer related to a new steel-making facility in Dolvi, Maharashtra.
The overall expansion at both ports is expected to add approximately 27 MTPA in cargo handling volume. Construction is projected to be completed by March 2027.
