Between April 1 and November 8, 2024, these mines produced 100.08 million tonnes. This marks a 33% increase compared to the same period last year. Coal dispatches have also increased by 34%, rising from 80.23 million tonnes in 2023 to 107.81 million tonnes in 2024.

The growing role of private and commercial coal mines shows the success of recent coal sector reforms. The Ministry of Coal expects this momentum to continue, targeting over 170 million tonnes by the end of the financial year. This success supports India’s goal of becoming self-sufficient in energy and achieving economic growth through the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
