India is set to have the world’s second-largest metro rail network. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, shared this vision at a recent meeting with members of the Consultative Committee of Parliament attached to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
Currently, 993 km of metro rail is operational across 23 cities, while 997 km is under construction in 28 cities. Key urban mobility initiatives, such as the “PM-eBus Sewa” scheme for deploying 10,000 e-buses, were discussed. This includes support for a PPP model, depot upgrades, and modern power infrastructure.
