India Strengthens Defence with Contract for 12 Su-30MKI Jets

HAL to produce 12 Su-30MKI aircraft with 62.6% indigenous content at ₹13,500 crore.

In a significant step towards boosting India’s self-reliance in defence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI aircraft. Valued at ₹13,500 crore, inclusive of taxes and duties, the deal was finalized on December 12, 2024.

The Su-30MKI jets will feature 62.6% indigenous content, achieved through the indigenization of critical components by the Indian defence industry. These advanced fighter jets will be manufactured at HAL’s Nasik division.
