In a significant step towards boosting India’s self-reliance in defence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI aircraft. Valued at ₹13,500 crore, inclusive of taxes and duties, the deal was finalized on December 12, 2024.
The Su-30MKI jets will feature 62.6% indigenous content, achieved through the indigenization of critical components by the Indian defence industry. These advanced fighter jets will be manufactured at HAL’s Nasik division.

This procurement will not only strengthen India’s defence preparedness but also enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force, ensuring readiness for evolving security challenges.
