The Indian Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹1750 crore investment for the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi Yomi district. This 186 MW project is expected to be completed in 50 months.
The project will generate 802 Million Units (MU) of power annually, enhancing energy availability in Arunachal Pradesh and aiding national grid stability. It is a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government.

The initiative includes ₹77.37 crore for building roads, bridges, and transmission lines, with ₹120.43 crore allocated as Central Financial Assistance for state equity. The state will receive 12% free power, 1% for a Local Area Development Fund, and benefits from improved infrastructure.
Shi Yomi residents will gain 10 kilometers of roads, bridges, and social infrastructure like hospitals, schools, and vocational institutes. The project will also boost employment, local compensations, and CSR activities, fostering socio-economic growth.
