In a landmark partnership, Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) and Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant JSC (UKTMP JSC) of Kazakhstan have signed an agreement to form a new joint venture company, IREUK Titanium Limited. This collaboration aims to produce high-grade titanium slag in India, marking a significant step in India’s titanium value chain development.
Strengthening Titanium Production
IREL, a key player under India’s Department of Atomic Energy, will supply ilmenite from Odisha as the raw material for the titanium slag production. The advanced technology for this process will be provided by Kazakhstan’s UKTMP JSC, one of the world’s leading titanium producers, ensuring high standards in the final product. The titanium slag produced will serve as feedstock for UKTMP JSC’s facilities in Kazakhstan, contributing to their titanium sponge production.

The joint venture will not only generate valuable foreign exchange for India but also create new job opportunities in Odisha. Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy, emphasized that this partnership aligns with India’s goals for self-reliance in the titanium sector.
