Hyundai’s Euisun Chung Meets Indian PM Narendra Modi to Boost EV Ecosystem and Mobility Growth

Expanding India's Electric Vehicle Future with Local Investments and Innovation

Focus on Strengthening Indian Mobility Market

Hyundai Motor Group’s Executive Chair Euisun Chung met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss cooperation on developing India’s growing mobility industry. Hyundai has been operating in India since 1996, and the meeting reaffirmed its commitment to expanding local production and introducing diverse, innovative products.

Commitment to ‘Make in India’

During the meeting, Chung highlighted Hyundai’s contributions to the Indian economy and its active participation in the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The Group is looking to accelerate its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, with plans to localize EV component production and expand the country’s EV charging infrastructure.

Key Discussions on Investment and Collaboration

The discussions covered various aspects of the mobility industry, focusing on potential cooperation between Hyundai and India. Executive Chair Chung emphasized the Group’s mid- to long-term strategy for growth in the Indian market. Hyundai’s role will be key as India progresses toward its ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision for national development by the 100th anniversary of independence.

New Plant and Future Collaborations

Chung extended an invitation to PM Modi to attend the opening of Hyundai’s upcoming plant in Pune, Maharashtra. This new facility is expected to be a game-changer for Hyundai in India, further solidifying its leadership in the local market and contributing to India’s development as a global automotive hub.

Strengthening India-Korea Ties

Chung also expressed admiration for India’s rich cultural heritage and reiterated Hyundai’s commitment to deepening economic and cultural ties between India and South Korea. He underscored Hyundai’s goal of becoming India’s most trusted automobile brand.

EV Ecosystem and Future Mobility

On the subject of electrification, Chung reaffirmed Hyundai’s focus on advancing India’s EV market, working closely with the government to release new EV models, establish charging networks, and produce key components locally. Hyundai’s long-term vision aligns with India’s push toward a sustainable and innovative future.
