Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced a major leap in localization by introducing Made-in-India AGM batteries in its domestic product lineup. Procured from Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited, these advanced batteries mark a first for the Indian auto industry.
The AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries boast a 150% improvement in durability over conventional CMF batteries. They also offer enhanced performance under India’s demanding driving conditions with a wider operational temperature range and extended life span.
According to Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, HMIL’s Whole-time Director, this initiative aligns with the Government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. By equipping vehicles with localized AGM batteries, HMIL ensures better performance, reduced emissions, and economic benefits like job creation and lower import dependency.
Amara Raja’s AGM technology is designed to meet stringent BS6 Phase 2 standards and supports ISG (Idle Stop and Go) systems. Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director of Amara Raja, emphasized this as a significant step towards redefining future mobility in India.
