CESC Mysuru Invites Bids for Overhead Power Lines Conversion to Underground and Aerial Bundled Cables

₹458 Crore Project to Boost Power Reliability and Safety Across Mysuru

Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC), Mysuru, has issued an invitation for electronic bids under competitive bidding for the conversion of existing HT/LT overhead power lines to underground (UG) cables and aerial bundled (AB) cables across several key areas in Mysuru City. The project aims to modernize the power infrastructure, improve reliability, and reduce interruptions for consumers.

Project Scope and Cost

This large-scale project involves converting the overhead HT and LT power lines into underground systems within Mysuru’s ring road and across major roads. The LT overhead lines in theft-prone and accident-prone areas will be replaced with AB cables. The project will enhance safety, reduce technical losses, and align Mysuru’s power infrastructure with modern standards. The project is expected to be completed in 2 years time from the date of award of work.

The project, covering key regions of Mysuru, is divided into sub-divisions with an estimated cost of ₹458 crore:

  • NR Mohalla & Chamundipuram Sub-Divisions: ₹110.169 crore
  • Kuvempunagar, Hootagally, & R.K. Nagar Sub-Divisions: ₹103.099 crore
  • V.V. Mohalla Sub-Division: ₹132.634 crore
  • Jyothinagar & Central Zone Sub-Divisions: ₹112.792 crore

Goals and Benefits

The project aims to address multiple challenges while aligning with modern power standards. The key objectives include:

  • Enhanced power reliability and reduced interruptions.
  • Improved safety and reduction of technical losses.
  • Aesthetic improvements by removing unsightly overhead lines.
  • Lower environmental impact and maintenance costs.

The initiative will include replacing theft- and accident-prone LT overhead lines with AB cables and installing UG cables for HT lines, complete with advanced systems like RMUs and CSS.

Transformative Impact

This upgrade will not only improve Mysuru’s electrical infrastructure but also enhance the city’s aesthetics and service quality. With fewer interruptions, reduced voltage fluctuations, and safer power delivery, residents can expect a more reliable and efficient energy supply.
