The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an investment of ₹1,939 crore for the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh. The project, expected to take 50 months to complete, will produce 1,000 million units of energy annually.
The joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government aims to enhance power supply in the region and stabilize the national grid. The government will also provide ₹127.28 crore for infrastructure like roads and bridges and ₹130.43 crore for the state’s equity share.

Arunachal Pradesh will benefit from 12% free power and 1% for local area development. The project will generate significant employment, requiring 200 personnel from NEEPCO, 400 workers from contractors, and creating indirect job opportunities for local businesses and services.
Aligned with Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the initiative is expected to support local enterprises, MSMEs, and boost socio-economic growth in the region.
