Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru (BLR Airport) has revealed a new green feature called ‘Tiger Wings.’ This vertical garden was created with help from Patrick Blanc, a famous French botanist. It is located in Terminal 2 and is the largest of Blanc’s projects in India.
‘Tiger Wings’ stands 30 feet high and 160 feet wide, covering two walls. The garden includes more than 15,000 plants from over 150 species, many of which are native to Karnataka. Blanc carefully selected plants from forests in the Western Ghats to ensure the garden reflects local biodiversity. The design uses a special soil-free system that allows plants to grow as they would in nature. The plants even form patterns that resemble tiger stripes and airplane wings.

This installation highlights BLR Airport’s aim to blend nature with infrastructure, creating a pleasant experience for travelers while promoting sustainability. The garden is water-efficient, using a special irrigation system that keeps plants healthy with minimal water. This system mimics natural growth conditions, helping to keep the area cool and improving air quality.
Airport officials expressed pride in the new garden, saying it aligns with Bengaluru’s green and modern values. ‘Tiger Wings’ is not just an airport feature but a celebration of India’s natural beauty and BLR Airport’s commitment to eco-friendly design.
