The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, launched on October 1, 2021, is driving urban self-reliance and water security across India. With a total outlay of ₹2.99 lakh crore, including ₹76,760 crore from the central government, the mission focuses on sewerage, water management, and green spaces in 500 cities.
As of November 15, 2024, ₹63,976.77 crore has been approved for states and union territories, with ₹11,756.13 crore disbursed. States reported utilizing ₹6,539.45 crore of the central share, resulting in a total expenditure of ₹17,089 crore, including state contributions. Projects worth ₹23,016.30 crore have been completed.

Tenders have been issued for 5,886 projects totaling ₹1,15,872.91 crore, and contracts for 4,916 projects worth ₹85,114.01 crore are underway. The mission emphasizes transparency and accountability, with a dedicated portal for tracking progress and provisions for independent monitoring.
State-level steering committees and technical bodies oversee the implementation, while the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) conducts regular reviews through workshops and site visits. This data was presented in the Rajya Sabha on December 2, 2024, by Shri Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs.
