Bharti Airtel Partners with Indian Army
Ladakh, India, November 6, 2024: Bharti Airtel, one of India’s top telecom providers, has expanded its network to Galwan and Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO)—India’s most remote military outposts along the Indo-China border.
This makes Airtel the only private telecom provider operating at 16,700 feet above sea level, providing much-needed connectivity in the high-altitude region.

Expanding Connectivity in Ladakh
In collaboration with the Indian Army, Airtel has installed 17 mobile towers across the Ladakh region, including Kargil, Siachen, Galwan, DBO, and Changthang.
These installations extend vital connectivity to isolated villages and military areas in Ladakh. Airtel’s partnership with the Leh Signalers proved crucial in overcoming the technical and logistical challenges posed by the rugged terrain and extreme weather.
Strategic Importance of Galwan and DBO
Located in the northeastern corner of the Karakoram Range, Galwan and DBO are strategic military locations along the Indo-China border. Airtel’s connectivity solution will support communication for both defense operations and local communities, enhancing communication capabilities in these remote and critical border areas.
