Afcons Infrastructure Ltd has marked a historic achievement by completing the longest tunnelling drive in Delhi Metro Phase-4. The milestone was reached on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor, with a breakthrough at Maa Anandmayee Marg Station, under Package DC-07.
The tunnel stretches 2.65 km between the Tughlakabad Airforce Launching Shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg Station. Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) AMRIT navigated challenging terrain, including mixed soil and hard rock strata, requiring multiple cutter replacements.
“Meticulous planning ensured the tunnel alignment avoided heritage structures near Mehrauli Badarpur Road,” said S Paramasivan, Managing Director of Afcons. The construction involved over 1,894 rings, each with an inner diameter of 5.8 meters, at an average depth of 16 meters.

Package DC-07 features three stations—Maa Anandmayee Marg Station, Tughlakabad Railway Colony Station, and Tughlakabad Station—and includes 11.26 km of tunnelling. The parallel tunnel for up-and-down movement is set for completion in January 2025.
This breakthrough highlights Afcons’ expertise and contribution to Delhi Metro’s Aerocity to Tughlakabad Corridor, a 23.62 km stretch set to redefine urban connectivity in the capital.
