ABB India has marked a new milestone in sustainable manufacturing with its upgraded Faridabad facility. The plant, part of the company’s IEC LV motor business, now incorporates expanded shop floors, enhanced energy efficiency measures, and a robust commitment to renewable energy.
The 36,000-square-meter facility produces a variety of energy-efficient motors, including specialized units like flameproof, crane duty, brake, and smoke extraction motors—designed to meet the unique needs of Indian industries. ABB’s investment emphasizes the company’s ‘Made in India’ approach, with increasing exports and reduced import reliance highlighting the plant’s role in showcasing India’s manufacturing capabilities.

Sustainability is a key focus, with the facility generating 180 MWh of solar power on-site in 2023 and achieving RE100’s renewable electricity goals to eliminate Scope 2 emissions. These efforts earned the plant the ‘Platinum Green Factory Buildings’ certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). Additionally, ABB reports that nearly 99% of waste at the plant is diverted from landfills, supporting ABB’s goal of zero waste to landfill.
President of ABB India’s Motion Business, Sanjeev Arora, emphasized the company’s dual focus on environmental and community support. “Our commitment to sustainability extends to enriching local supplier ecosystems while meeting India’s demand for safer, more efficient motor solutions,” he said.
Looking forward, ABB plans to continue advancing automation and digitalization at the plant, enhancing local manufacturing, and improving cost efficiency.
