Major Developments in the Pharma and Healthcare Sectors
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for four Centres of Excellence at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in four cities: Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Mohali. These centers will specialize in key areas, including medical devices, bulk drugs, phytopharmaceuticals, and anti-bacterial and anti-viral drug research.
Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated five manufacturing projects under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for medical devices and bulk drugs. These facilities are located in Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
Boosting Local Manufacturing for Advanced Healthcare
The new manufacturing units aim to produce high-end medical devices like stents, implants, and other essential equipment, further enhancing India’s position in the global healthcare market. These projects are expected to advance India’s “Make in India” initiative within the healthcare sector, reinforcing self-sufficiency.
