Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has reached a significant milestone in India’s Aerospace & Defence industry. The company inaugurated the Final Assembly Line (FAL) complex for the C295 aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat. This initiative marks a crucial step in the collaboration between TASL and Airbus.
‘Make in India’ Initiative
The partnership aims to deliver 56 C295 aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). This project is a pioneering example of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, showcasing the potential of indigenous manufacturing.
High-Profile Inauguration Ceremony
The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, alongside the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón. Notable attendees included N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Mr. Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, and other senior government dignitaries.

Boosting Self-Reliance in Defence
This development significantly boosts the Government of India’s ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) programme. It represents the first instance of a private sector entity setting up an aircraft FAL in the country.
Transition to Modern Aircraft
The inauguration comes three years after the IAF formalised the acquisition of 56 Airbus C295 aircraft. This new fleet will replace the outdated AVRO models. Under the contract, 40 units will be manufactured and assembled at this newly established FAL in partnership with TASL.
