Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Limited (ASPHL) has opened THE Lotus Palace Chettinad, a heritage hotel located in Kanadukathan, near Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. This historic palace, originally built in the 17th century, has been carefully restored to celebrate Chettinad’s unique architectural heritage and culture.
The hotel’s design blends traditional Chettinad elements with modern aesthetics. Large wooden doors and beautiful courtyards reflect the local style, while the main courtyard features a lotus-inspired kolam pattern. Inside, 15 rooms showcase classic furniture and local “athangudi” tiled floors in shades of turquoise and black.
Guests can enjoy traditional Chettinad cuisine at the 86 Pillars restaurant, with dishes like Kaalan Keti Kuzhambu and a 15-dish Chettinad Thali. The hotel’s bar, named 1795, honors the year of the palace’s original construction, offering handcrafted cocktails and Asian-inspired snacks.
