Larsen & Toubro and Clean Core Thorium Energy Forge Strategic Clean Energy Partnership

Global Initiative to Boost Clean Nuclear Energy Solutions

A New Partnership in Clean Energy

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a technology leader from India, has announced a strategic partnership with Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE), a U.S.-based nuclear fuel company. The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in providing efficient clean energy solutions worldwide. The partnership revolves around the use of CCTE’s patented ANEEL fuel, which combines thorium and enriched uranium to promote decarbonization, energy security, and nuclear safety.

Revolutionary Nuclear Fuel

ANEEL fuel is designed for use in Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR), CANDU reactors, and advanced nuclear reactors. This new fuel aims to reduce waste by 85% and offers improved safety with its accident-tolerant features. The fuel is also expected to significantly cut operating costs and reduce uranium consumption, contributing to a cleaner, more secure energy future.

Focus on Global Deployment

The goal of the L&T and CCTE partnership is to accelerate the adoption of nuclear power, especially in developing countries that require substantial carbon-free electricity. This initiative is crucial for driving sustainable growth in regions with increasing energy demands.

Leadership Comments

Speaking at the signing event in Mumbai, Anil Parab, Whole-time Director & Sr. Executive Vice President of L&T, emphasized the importance of establishing a world-class supply chain for ANEEL fuel to meet growing nuclear energy demand globally.

Mehul Shah, CEO of CCTE, highlighted the importance of partnering with L&T, a market leader with deep engineering expertise, to achieve their vision of sustainable, clean energy through ANEEL fuel.

Testing and Commercialization

Currently undergoing testing with the U.S. Department of Energy, ANEEL fuel is on track for commercial use by 2026. This partnership marks a significant step in nuclear energy innovation, pushing forward the Indo-US civil nuclear cooperation established in 2008.

This collaboration aims to reshape the clean energy landscape with advanced nuclear solutions poised to meet global energy needs while reducing environmental impact.
