Lothal to Shine as Global Maritime Heritage Hub with NMHC

National Maritime Heritage Complex to showcase India’s rich maritime history and drive global tourism

Lothal Set to Transform into a Global Maritime Heritage Hub

Lothal, an ancient Indus Valley site in Gujarat, is poised to host the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), a groundbreaking initiative under the Sagarmala Programme. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, accompanied by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, reviewed the project’s progress during a recent visit.

A Tribute to India’s Maritime Legacy

The NMHC aims to highlight India’s maritime achievements, from ancient dockyards of 2400 BCE to modern naval triumphs. This state-of-the-art complex will combine education and entertainment to engage visitors while preserving the nation’s rich maritime history.

Key Milestones Achieved in NMHC Development

The ministers toured landmarks like INS Nishank, Lothal Jetty Walkway, and Museum Block. Shri Sonowal expressed satisfaction with the 65% completion of Phase 1A and reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering the project on time.

A Vision for Global Collaboration

The project reflects the visionary leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi and aligns with India’s mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat by 2047. It aims to foster collaboration between India’s maritime community and global industries, attracting tourists and professionals worldwide.
