Maritime India Vision 2030: Transforming India’s Maritime Sector

A Strategic Plan for Ports, Waterways, and Shipping Growth

India’s Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 is charting a transformative course for the nation’s maritime sector, aiming to establish India as a global leader in ports, shipping, and waterways. Launched as a holistic framework, MIV 2030 outlines 150 initiatives spanning key areas like port infrastructure, logistics efficiency, and sustainability.

In the past three years, India has witnessed remarkable achievements under MIV 2030:

  • Major Port Capacity increased from 1,598 MMTPA in FY22 to 1,630 MMTPA in FY24.
  • Vessel Turn Around Time (TAT) improved from 53 hours in FY22 to 48 hours in FY24.
  • India’s global ranking in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index surged from 44 in 2018 to 22 in 2023.
  • Cargo volumes on National Waterways rose from 108 MMT in FY22 to 133 MMT in FY24, driving employment growth across sectors.

A key innovation is the Sagarmanthan Portal, a digital tool monitoring MIV’s progress. It tracks metrics like capital expenditure, port performance, and project outcomes. Additionally, specialized cells like Viksit Bharat Sankalp (ViBhaS) and NAVIC ensure consistent alignment with the vision’s objectives.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted these advancements in a recent Rajya Sabha session, showcasing how MIV 2030 is a pivotal force for India’s maritime modernization.
