December 02, 2024: Swan Energy Limited (SEL), a global conglomerate, has achieved a significant milestone with the resumption of operations at its shipyard, Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited (RNEL). The shipyard has successfully completed the refit of the Indian Coast Guard’s fast patrol vessel Raj Ratan, well ahead of schedule.
The refit project began on September 4, 2024, and was completed by November 30, 2024, in collaboration with Sadhav Offshore Engineering Pvt. Ltd. This marks a key step in Swan’s revival efforts, as it took control of RNEL earlier this year through NCLT proceedings.
Mr. Vivek Merchant, Director of Swan’s Shipyard, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, “Delivering our first Indian Coast Guard vessel underscores our commitment to enhancing India’s ship repair and shipbuilding capabilities. Our vision is to position the shipyard as a global maritime hub.”

The shipyard’s infrastructure includes India’s largest dry dock, measuring 662 meters by 65 meters, a 600-tonne goliath crane, and advanced facilities for fabrication, piping, and painting with a capacity of 12,000 tons per month. The facility also offers a pre-erection berth for assembling mega blocks and a dual berthing quay for ship commissioning.
Swan’s shipyard is gearing up for further operations, including shipbuilding projects, aiming to support India’s growing maritime and heavy engineering sectors on a global scale.
