Cabinet Approves Rs 7,927 Crore Railway Multi-Tracking Projects

Boosting Connectivity, Cutting Costs, and Lowering Emissions with New Railway Lines

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved three major railway multi-tracking projects worth ₹7,927 crore. These initiatives aim to ease congestion, enhance connectivity, and reduce logistics costs while lowering carbon emissions.

The projects span Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, covering 639 km across seven districts and benefiting 38 lakh people. Key routes include:

  1. Jalgaon–Manmad 4th Line (160 km)
  2. Bhusawal–Khandwa 3rd & 4th Lines (131 km)
  3. Prayagraj–Manikpur 3rd Line (84 km)

These projects align with the PM-Gati Shakti Plan for seamless connectivity. They will increase freight capacity by 51 million tonnes annually, create jobs, and promote tourism to landmarks like Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Khajuraho’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Completion is expected within four years, contributing to India’s climate goals with reduced CO2 emissions equivalent to planting 11 crore trees.
