Indian Railways is setting new benchmarks with its latest endeavor to enhance travel experiences. Currently, 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are under production, signaling a significant leap in long-distance travel innovation. The first prototype has been manufactured and is slated for field trials. Additionally, the production of 200 Vande Bharat Sleeper rakes has been awarded to technology partners, with rollout timelines dependent on trial results.
Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that 136 Vande Bharat Express services, equipped with Chair Cars, are already operational across India, boasting an occupancy rate exceeding 100% as of October 2024.
From April 2018 onward, Indian Railways has exclusively produced LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches. These technologically advanced coaches offer superior features like anti-climbing arrangements, air suspension systems, and enhanced durability. The number of LHB coaches produced between 2014 and 2024 surged to over 36,900—more than 16 times the production during 2004–2014.

As part of the “Sugamya Bharat Mission” (Accessible India Campaign), Indian Railways is enhancing accessibility for Divyangjans and passengers with reduced mobility. Comprehensive facilities such as ramps, Braille signage, low-height counters, and accessible parking are now available across major stations. Vande Bharat trains feature automatic doors, earmarked spaces, and Braille signage, further cementing their commitment to inclusivity.
Indian Railways’ modernization efforts not only aim to provide a world-class travel experience but also underscore the government’s dedication to inclusivity and innovation.
